Chicago Public Schools Xunzi and Al Farab Discussion

I’m working on a philosophy discussion question and need an explanation to help me learn.

I will provide attachments and link needed to complete this discussion. It needs to be 300 words.

For these readings, I suggest you go back and re-read the Antiquity readings on China and Islam (extra Credit 2). The contexts of the two authors are radically different than our own, and everything from terminology to ideology needs to be properly contextualized for you to make sense of the readings. Focus on why the idea of human nature is critical to the conversation; where in the structura does the question of human nature belong?

Is Xunzi wrong? Can you think of a way to break his argument? If he is right, what does that mean for ethics in general? If he is wrong, what does that mean for ethics?

Al Farabi gives us a hierarchy of development, what are the three levels? At which level is morality possible? What makes it possible? What kinds of happiness would al Farabi consider “improper?” Why?
