Examine the promise of inclusion and self-fulfillment within the “narrative of the American Dream.” Pay particular attention to contradictory systems of power, inequality, and exclusion as they have interacted with the dominant discourse on the American Dream. Make sure you reference the 3 “texts” we have discussed in class.

Remember to organize your thoughts in a coherent, well-structured essay: include an explicit thesis statement in your introduction, analyze and justify your arguments in the main body, and summarize the main ideas of your essay in the conclusion. Make sure you use both evidence from “texts” on the course outline and relevant theory to justify your arguments. Note that answers which merely summarize “texts” will NOT receive credit.
