Topic 2
Look at figure 10-6 (page 280) “Interacting with Literacy .” What did you learn from that figure? Please give specific information learned. How can you support the literacy-rich environment?
What I learned from the figure 10-6 is that children are learning literacy skills in different ways such as learning literacy from parents and there communities and reading books, letters and magazines. Literacy begins with communication, both verbal and nonverbal. I would support the literacy rich environment by having sign up in the classroom that relate to the topic I would have pictures books for the children to look at. Two and three years of age, children begin to notice and read print all around them McDonalds signs, stop signs ,a print advertisement for their favorite cereal box or television, (Nilsen,2017, pg. 280).
Topic 3:
After reading this chapter, Discuss:
- Literacy Rating scales
- Literacy rich environment
- I learned about literacy and computers and how young children have a great interest in computers, smart phones and tablets and using them to imitate adult.
Skills: What skills you gained and how will you use the skills?
The skills I have gain is how to use rating scale and how computer enhance literacy and social development . There are foundational skills in technology literacy that can be taught in early learning programs: motor skills using a mouse ,touchpad and hand-eye coordinate socio emotional skills by playing computer games and working in collaboratively on programs(Nilsen, 2017, p.283). I would use literacy scales by describing criteria over time of what the children are doing and what they need to improve.
These skills are important because it helps the teacher figure how each children learn and the teacher can see the child progress and what they need help with.
