Just like any good relationship, there always needs to be trust and communication and this relationship between politics and emergency management should be no different. Emergency management and politics affect one another because oftentimes when an incident occurs to the local community, emergency management normally involves some sort of politics in on the situation so they may stay up to date with the latest info. Since they need to know what is going on they need to have a professional relationship with the emergency team in order to stay informed of the situation but also to help out by giving resources or funding if need be. At the end of the situation you want someone to mention how you showed up to help even as a politician. It helps to get yourself some good exposure to the people who voted you to be in that position and you want to be seen as the one who is willing to help out their community rather than turn their back on it when they need someone.
