Please answer each of these four essay questions. Each essay question is worth 25 points. You are expected to give each essay a thorough answer to include the incorporation of the intelligence literature that we have studied this semester. The use of proper academic citations for referenced literature is required. You should aim for each essay to be at least two single-spaced pages long for a total of eight pages, not including citations and references.

What do you tell them about the business of intelligence, the responsibilities of analysts, sources of raw intelligence, the intelligence cycle, and the production of finished intelligence analysis? What steps would you recommend to the CIA’s leadership about educating these new analysts throughout their CIA careers?

2.Just as you finished tutoring the new CIA analysts, a senior CIA official stops by your desk to ask you to take on another assignment. You are put in charge of a team responsible for all-source analysis of a country in the Middle East hostile to American national interests.

How are you going to guard against any intelligence failures occurring on your watch? What guidance do you have for your analytic team on how best to produce accurate intelligence analyses on your Middle East country?

3.Imagine yourself as a counter-intelligence analyst working for the Federal Bureau of Investigation. You are tasked with looking for spies inside the U.S. government.

Based on your research of past American espionage cases, what types of individuals are most likely to pose counter-intelligence risks? What agencies and positions are most vulnerable to foreign espionage targeting? And what actors are most likely in the years ahead to launch these espionage assaults on the U.S. government?

4.Congratulations, you have just been named as a new briefer for the President’s Daily Brief (PDB) on the Director of National Intelligence’s staff. You are scheduled to start briefing President-elect Joe Biden.

What is the PDB and how does it serve presidential decision making? What is your role as an intelligence officer and how is that different from a policy making role? And how should the PDB best be tailored to serve President Biden and his administration?
