Should we continue to work 40 hours a week, if research shows this a sustainable business strategy?
Introduction
As it was introduced, there is no one formula to come up with a strategy for businesses. However, with tons of research showing that employees are just as effective working 32 hours a week, vs 40, why haven’t we adopted that as the new norm? Even during one zoom call over the summer during my internship with JPMC, our CEO Jamie Dimond commented on how Fridays were more like sleeping days.
Background
One team I was originally a part of within JPMC, for salaried positions, they took every other Friday off as instructed by our boss. I know personally, I wish for more 3 days weekends, and used to take them on a monthly basis, but that was how my vacation time was normally spent. With so much ground breaking research on this, why can’t we normalize 4 day work weeks, or even adopt taking classes later on in the day vs at 8 in the morning for some. These are major strategies that require further consideration as well as hr policies in order to standardize this new schedule.
Conclusion
With New Zealand companies leading as prime effective examples for 4 day work weeks, I can only hope it’ll be a matter of time that other companies adopt this new model. I know my CEO has already expressed some hope for shorter full time schedules to take place. With certain arguments to consider such as trust, how can we ensure this to be an effective long term sustainable strategy?

How is lack of technology hurting kids education during COVID-19?
As our semester comes to an end so does half the school year for grade school students. Currently, there are some schools districts that are requiring students with less than 70% success rate to continue back to in person learning. Even though school districts have made technology available for those who need it, there are some that are still lacking enough devices to cover all the students needs.
Even once students go back to in person learning, they are still on their technology devices. Education as we know it will never be the same. While typing with post I received a public notice on my phone that there are now 926 new COVID-19 cases which now means that there is a risk of all students going back to distance learning. Some parents don’t have the time to ensure that their child is wake and prepare for distant learning.
Please share how you think the lack of availability to technology is hurting grade school students during COVID-19.
