The small groups I belong to include friendship groups, familygroups, college scout leadership group and the youth group in ourchurch. The family group and the youth group in our church are the mostinfluential in my life. This is because I often interact with the groupmembers, and they have high interdependence levels. Their sharedidentity based on task and relationship with other members providessatisfaction. The two groups also meet inclusion and supportinterpersonal needs, improving my well-being and satisfaction. Besides, the family group, friendship group and the youth group have lastedbecause they are relational groups. As Jones, (2013) notes, theserelational groups have endured because they are focused on improvingquality interactions and improving personal well-being. However, thecollege scout leadership group has faded out of my life because it wastask-oriented, and I no longer attend scouts or any associatedfunctions.

Substantive conflicts arising from poor resource allocation, deficiency in performance and poor communication, and personalityconflicts arising from conflicting interests are some of the conflicts Ihave encountered in small groups. The substantive disputes wereresolved through group leaders that sought to understand the conflictand assisted in understanding group roles. This was accompanied byimproved communication to ensure all group members understand grouptasks. Concerning personality conflicts, the leader resolved them bydefining the core aim of the group and the benefits each individual canreap from the group.

Yes, I find myself emerging as a leader in small groups that I getinvolved in, which is influenced by the group structure. Leadership isessential in small groups because it shapes the direction of the group(Jones, 2013). Since leaders have a broad perspective of what’s going onin the group and have access to information, they are able to influencedecisions in a group that ensures completion of the task fortask-oriented groups and achievement of interpersonal needs inrelational groups, among others. Thus, leadership is vital because itgives direction in small groups which further ensures effective andefficient resource allocation and conflict resolution.
Classmate 2 :
1)Currently,with the whole Covid-19 Situation, I’m restricting myself from goingout, and hanging out with small groups other than my family. My familyis a small group that is the most influential to me, and will always be.I believe that family will always be there for you, no matter whathappens. Usually, the small groups that fade are friends, as time passesby, and things change, people tend to hang out with a new group afriend, and I can say that for myself. The small group that has lastedfor me is my family, they are always motivating me on the things I wantto do, they care about me, and so do I, for them.
2) Some conflict that I have had with small groups other than myfamily, is a contrast in opinions, this can’t really be resolved unlessthe person really wants to. When a contrast in opinion occurs, usuallythe friendship/small group ends. I don’t really like hanging out withanyone who disagrees with me with most things, because then what funwould it be doing anything. I’m not the type of person that is stubborn, and want’s everything to go his way, but sometimes if I really disagreewith something, I stand my ground, and like making a change.
3) Leadership is a key character trait in anything someone does. Iusually don’t mind whether or not I’m the leader of a small group, aslong as everything goes smoothly. Leadership is really important in asmall group, it helps in making decisions, and keeping the group intact.Usually, if the small group is a group of friends, there isn’t aleader, we all just go with the flow. Whereas in the family, usually, the parents are the leaders.
