Purpose: The purpose is to educate yourself and your classmates through research, oral reporting and demonstrating about your chosen topic. Present the topic as a professional and in a concise, easy-to-understand manner. Research the topic you choose from your textbook and summarize the material in a written paper and oral presentation using the guidelines below. Find two other references to support or dispute the topic. Each oral presentation should be about 10 minutes long and should include:

Ø25 Points: Content of Written Paper and Talk

oAn introduction to the topic, including an explanation of why the topic interested you (5 pts)

oThree important terms or words related to the subject and definitions (3 pts)

oHow the information is useful to health professionals and the public (5 pts)

oMention of two citations (supporting or disagreeing with the textbook topic) -one from the internet and one from a peer-reviewed scientific source (use PubMed or other reliable source from the library for the peer-reviewed source) and state how these two additional sources supported or disagreed with the information in the textbook (8 pts)

oYour personal opinion as to whether or not you agree with the information presented in your paper and explain why you agree or disagree (do you have prior first-hand experience with the subject? have you found other information to dispute what the highlight is stating? etc.) (4 pts)

Ø20 Points: Practical Application Tool/Demonstration

oShow the class (or demonstrate) how you will educate the consumer/client regarding your topic. For Example: handouts, charts, pamphlets, activities, demonstrations, models, experiments, articles, power points, multimedia tools etc……..

Ø3 Points: Bibliography

oMust include 3 properly-cited sources:

1.Your Textbook Topic

2.Your supporting internet citation

3.One peer-reviewed citation
