PU The Canterbury Tales The Monk Friar Merchant & Wife of Bath Discussion

Question Description

Read The Canterbury Tales (page 10), from this link https://ung.edu/university-press/_uploads/files/Wo…, and answer the questions below.

According to what we read, the Knight is an ideal example of the first estate, the Parson is an ideal of the second estate, and the Yeoman and Plowman are ideals of the third estate. In contrast, the Prioress is a description of someone who belongs to the second estate but lives like she’s in the first estate. What I’d like you to do now is to reread the descriptions of the following pilgrims, list which estate you think they’re meant to belong to, and if there’s anything that doesn’t fit. Also, please list a distinctive characteristic for each character.

The Monk

The Friar

The Merchant

The Wife of Bath
