With Helen by Hilda Doolittle only having three stanzas it is hard for me to tell the themes, messages, and images. From what I can tell one of the themes is how Greece hates Helen. Hilda wrote how they had white faces and still eyes, I take that as they are almost like stone, emotionless but hateful. My theme is further supported as in the second stanza she writes how, when Halen grows ill and white they hate her more deeply. It is also stated that she is verbal abused by them as well as hated when she smiles. Greeces hatred for Helen is again reconfirmed in the third stanza as Hilda writes that Greece sees unmoved.

‘Helen’ is a poem which consists of three stanzas written by Hilda Doolittle. This poem potrays the emotion of hate of the Greek people towards Helen. We see imagery throughout the poem, but in the first stanza hate is clearly shown through imagery, for instance by mentioning “the still eyes in the white face” this can be interpreted as someone with a dead-like apperance, or a lack of facial expressions. Basically, In the first stanza we’re told that “all Greece hates” Helen. In the last stanza, we can see that this hate arose from Helen fleeing to Troy so she did not have to marry King of Sparta, which ultimately lead to the Trojan War and the hatred for Helen despite her beautiful features. The theme of this poem is definitely hate and apperance. Hate mainly because all of Greece united in their hatred of Helen and completely shift all their blame to her. But, she is still known for being the most beautiful woman, yet the poem describes her as if her beauty has become frozen.
