Nova Southeastern University Data Science In Nursing Discussion
Question Description
I have to reply to 3 post,
FIRST POST
There is a growing interest in data science in nursing. Most researchers believe that through streamlining processes in healthcare, advancing medical research, and enhancing the effectiveness of treatment, Big Data analytics has the potential to transform the healthcare sector (Fain 2020). Fain (2020) notes that today, data-savvy nurses who want to obtain a Masters in Science of Nursing degree are growing. As adequately acknowledged in the discussion, nursing research is leading to the study and exploration of creative ways that maximize patient outcomes. Nurses know their patients best and promote better diagnoses and interactions through trust and contact between nurses and their patients.
According to Fain (2020), studies in nursing research have presented the use of data to advance nursing practices. The discussion reflects on the role of NINR as institutions that has since advanced professional nursing practice. As part of the U.S. National Center of Nursing Studies, the Clinical and fundamental science is funded by the National Institutes of Health to create a scientific foundation for the nursing treatment of persons (Granheim, Shaw & Mansah 2018). According to Granheim, Shaw & Mansah (2018), NINR intends to encourage and strengthen the wellbeing of people and the larger populations. Today, NINR encourages and performs scientific and fundamental data-lead health and disease research. In your case, there is evident interest in software integration in studying best practices in obesity, tobacco use and cases of adult depression. The discussion is insightful.

SECOND POST
There are many new and exciting ways that technology can help nurses in research and practice. As you have stated avatars can be used to impact evidence in a new way and can help generate information and data collection. With the use of avatars nurses can engage in virtual environments that help engage in clinical imagination and enhance listening and observational skills. OConnor (2019) suggested that evidence implies that participants of virtual agents will have better physical and psychosocial outcomes, as the digital avatars are able to be culturally customized and social preferences (p.526). One study that can help support the use of avatar-based education and research is that of Tongpeth and Clark (2018) that developed an interactive avatar-based education application in the response to acute coronary syndrome. The application was based of using evidence-based guidelines to help in heart attack and patient education. Researchers continue to develop new and improved applications for avatars, as technology advances to provide a positive change in healthcare. However, there are some limitations to the use of avatars as there are limited to the abilities to engage in collaboration and inability to make moral judgments.

THIRD POST
Technology has broadened the research arena and expanded its boundaries. The internet has opened up many avenues for researchers conducting studies and analyzing data. Just as you noted, internet research is less costly, there is ease of access to participants, more research control, simplified data collection, and less time spent on the study. Another advantage to using the internet for research is participants can be in a personal location or environment of their preference rather than a laboratory (Williams, 2012).
In terms of collection data and experimentation, researchers are utilizing the concept of avatars in an online world. An avatar is created by the researcher and participant to represent themselves in this virtual world. Researchers collect data and analyze the information as three-dimensional situations and simulations are carried out. Theses virtual realities are used for education sessions, observation of interactions, and trainings. As pointed out by Miller and Polson (2019), virtual realities and avatars are used as supplements in treatment care plans but do not replace physical human-to-human interactions. Virtual realities hold the potential to reach groups of people that were never able to be accessed before in traditional research studies.
