Compare and contrast federal funding versus private funding for public health programs

Several funding programs are put in place to advance the planning and evaluating of health promotion programs. Federal funding for public health programs is money collected from taxpayers by the government to provide physical and organizational structures and facilities that function at the state, and local health and human services (Fertman & Allensworth, 2016). Funding at the federal level is coordinated through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the National Institute of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Fertman & Allensworth, 2016). Federal funding for public health programs entails providing resources to hospitals, schools, and health education at state and local levels. Private funding is provided through gifts and grants and does not rely on any monetary distributions from public funding organizations. Grants and gifts are provided to finance activities and programs as long as certain criteria and goals are met for program funding. Also, when private funding such as grants or gifts are provided for programs, this money is not required to be paid back. Both federal and private funding for public health programs are structured to build healthy populations to keep important activities in place and provide help to the quality of health systems by networking with different care systems and the public in regards to education, quality, well-being, and good organization of services delivered in communities (Himmelstein & Woolhandler, 2016).

Present an example of an intervention funded with private funding, and an example funded with public funding.

Response to Intervention is an excellent program, but like many interventions, it takes money, planning, and funding to put the idea in motion. Federal Funding to Support Response to Intervention is a service provided to students who are not identified as requiring special education or related services but need additional help in academic and behavioral support in a basic learning environment (Gorski, 2017). The money for this intervention is allocated by Tier’s and the purpose of the Title 1 federal supplement is to ensure that all students have a fair and equal opportunity of quality education (Gorski, 2017). Furthermore, Tobacco Control Policies to promote Health Equity (R01 and R21 Clinical Trial Option), is a grant that provides funding for observational interventions investigations that hone in on reducing tobacco, second-hand smoke, and other inequalities in communities with low socioeconomic areas (“Rural Health Information Hub,” 2020).
