Laramie County Community College Use of Technology in Criminal Investigations Paper

Criminal Justice Issues – Pro/Con Format: On the date specified in the course schedule, all students must hand in a paper in which they have selected a current issues facing Criminal Justice today. Present both sides of the issue and discuss your view point on the issue based on the pros and cons of the issues. Some examples of issues are:

• Alternatives to Incarceration
• Legalization of drugs
• Racial Profiling
• Use of Technology in Criminal Investigations
• DNA and its use in Criminal Investigations
• Juveniles Charged as Adults
• Discussion of a Controversial Court Decision(s)
• Terrorism
• Incarceration of suspected terrorists
• Patriot Act Issues
• Drug Use and Crime

These examples are meant as examples only, and you are by no means limited to the above examples as paper topics. I fully encourage students to seek and develop their own paper topics, and I am available to help students develop topic ideas. However, if you choose to write on a topic not on the above list, please discuss your topic with me before writing. Failure to do so will result in your paper not being accepted and you receiving a zero grade for the assignment.

The Pro/Con paper MUST follow MLA format. If you are not familiar with MLA format, you must obtain a MLA handbook. Failure to follow format will result in a loss of ten points from your final grade and will also likely effect your “organization” points as well. Papers must be typed, minimum of four (4) pages, double-spaced, margins no more than 1 inch each side, top and bottom. Proofread your papers as spelling and grammar will count in the final grade.
