HCC Drug and Medical Device Companies and Doctors Discussion

This week’s discussion is on the science of pharmacology and pharmacological interventions for SUDs. Please read the article below entitled “We Found Over 700 Doctors Who Were Paid More Than a Million Dollars by Drug and Medical Device Companies.”

How do you feel about doctors receiving a “payment” of some kind from a drug manufacturer or a medical device maker? Do you think that this may influence which drugs or medical devices a doctor may use or prescribe, and to what extent? What about a “conflict of interest?” Look for credible scientific evidence to support your narrative. I want you to use at least one scholarly scientific (preferably, peer-reviewed) source that presents information about how physicians have been influenced by drug and medical device companies. Properly cite your sources using APA Style within the text of your discussion.

You will earn more points if you provide information from at least two new references. It is always best to make all of your references (other than this week’s article, if you use it), scholarly peer-reviewed references–(preferably U.S primary sources).
