History of Cannabis Use

Use of cannabis as medicine in our hospitals has been supported by numerous non-governmental organizations as well as medical doctors. The use of marijuana or cannabis for medical reasons has been overlooked as the revolution and help to the medical field. Government organizations and leaders have vehemently opposed its application who view it as a strategy of legalizing cannabis (Government to review medicinal use of cannabis, 2018). Leaders and governments have argued that if legalized as the NGO and medical practitioners want, may open floodgates for people to start using it for other purposes which otherwise might affect their health. The leaders assert that the driving force to legalize cannabis is emanating from the drug traffickers who want to use the excuse of ‘medical purposes’ to trade on the illegal drug. The government and leaders have opposed the idea because it will demonstrate more harm than good in various countries.

Research holds that use of cannabis as medicine can help to cure serious diseases that have been problematic to many people. For example, doctors opine that cannabis can be used on cancer patients to relieve pain and limit growth of cells that cause cancer disease (Hill et al., 2017). Main advantage of the drug is that patients can use it as pain reliever. The extract of cannabis can be administered to cancer patients due to its pain relieving characteristics. Many people with sleeping disorders are recommended to use cannabis to assist them in addressing their insomnia.

The legal practice of the use of cannabis as medicine is controlled by the medical situation and the prescription from a qualified and veteran physician (Hill et al., 2017). The regulations of cannabis can be done by enacted laws that would prevent drug traffickers from disguising as selling a medicinal cannabis. The law would curb the selling of the drug hence restricting its use in the society.
