Florida International University Critiquing The WSVN And WPLG Shows Essay

Here is the requirement from the professor: As I mentioned, your next paper will focus on analyzing tomorrow night’s late news on WSVN and WPLG (Wednesday, 11/11). The WSVN show airs at 10 p.m. (channel 7 or 1007 in HD on Xfinity and U-Verse), the WPLG show at 11 p.m. (channel 10/1010) (New York time zone). They both should be streamed live on the stations’ respective websites. The WSVN show is a full hour, but it’s enough to watch the first half hour.

Neither of these shows is available online after the fact. As we discussed, you will need to watch live or find a way to record and watch both.

The papers will be due on Thursday, November 19. Feel free to turn them in earlier, if you like. I strongly prefer that you print them out.

In writing your paper, follow these instructions and answer these questions. Your papers will be better if you make sure to address/follow them all.

1) I’d like you to critique both shows in a paper that is no more than two single-spaced pages in length (that’s a preferred maximum; it does not have to be that long).

2) Include some basic details: the name of the anchors/hosts, the local station they work for, the stories covered.

3) Analyze and compare the shows: What did you like? What did you not like? Did you think their choice of stories made sense? How were the stories different? How were the approaches different? What do you think about their studios? What show did you prefer? Why? What anchors did you prefer? Why? Are they doing what I’ve been telling you to do? What’s their chemistry like? What do you think about the way the shows are written? Do you notice differences in the writing?

4) Compare them on all levels with the network shows you’ve watched.
