In the current setting, there are a lot of people who deny climate change exist, and hence there has been laxity in addressing this issue. As a result, the problem of climate change has become worse.

The first topic which might be tackled by the paper is that of climate change denial. Notably, there has been an increasing number of people who are doubtful that the issue of climate change exists. In their case, it will start with the denial that the science used in supporting the phenomenon of climate change has not yet been settled. For that reason, it cannot be used as a point of reference. Additionally, the deniers will also assert that climate change cannot be fixed because it would be very expensive. That can be regarded as a subtle form of climate change denial. Also, there is the aspect of humanitarian denial. In this case, the deniers argue that climate change will be good for humanity (Maslin 20). That is because longer and warmer summers in the temperate regions will make them produce more food. Furthermore, the deniers will use political tools to further their agenda. That is normally the case for the countries which are the biggest contributors to the issue of climate change. Lastly, it will be crisis denial whereby the deniers assert that it is not plausible to alter things from their current status, given the uncertainty associated with effecting change.

You will choose your own topic for this paper, which must focus on an issue related to this semester’s course theme, the environment, but I must approve all topics, and you may not use the same topic you wrote about in the first essay. The research paper should be expository, argumentative, or analytical (cause-effect). You may also examine a range of views to draw your own conclusions or an unsolved problem to pose a solution. The paper should not focus on the life of a famous environmentalist. Remember, the research paper, like all essays, is a discussion, not a bunch of random thoughts and quoted passages loosely held together.

Your final paper must employ at least five outside sources, and at least one of these must be one of the books we’re reading this semester (or a reasonable, previously approved substitute). Each source used should provide more than just a couple of sentences. These sources must be documented correctly, i.e., according to M.L.A. guidelines, eighth edition, on a list of works cited, the last page of the final paper. Incorrect documentation will result in a lower paper grade. M.L.A. writing and research guidelines can be found in any recently published writing handbook, in the Modules on Canvas, or at Pierce’s Library’s website. 1. Choose a subject.
2. Here, you create topics from the subject. Gather ideas about the subject by brainstorming, clustering, freewriting, or using any information-gathering technique with which you are comfortable. Do this in a general way first. In other words, write down everything that you can think of about your subject. If you focus too much here, you might miss out on a better topic or main idea.
3. Choose a topic from step 2, and brainstorm, cluster, or free write again to produce more information and ideas. Now you focus.
4. Write a tentative thesis.
5. Look for research about your thesis. This step takes some time. Your research might lead you to alter or refine your thesis. You might also do this step before creating a tentative thesis statement. Sometimes, researching a topic will help writers develop a central point of their own.
6. Create an outline.
7. Write the essay.
8. If possible, set the essay aside for several days. Then, read it again with fresh eyes, and revise and edit your work. You might also have someone else read your paper and give you comments about it.
9. Proofread one last time. Make sure that your essay follows the M.L.A. format.
10. Celebrate the end of the assignment.
