Virions (or “particles”) of coronary viruses are spherical particles between 0.06 micron and 0.14 micron in diameter, averaging about 0.125 micron, measured by electron microscope (Zhu et al, 2020). That’s about 140 nanometers at its maximum size. Another article contradicted this statement, the penetration of 0.3-micron particles, regarded as the most penetrating size, varied from 25% at 5l/min to 65% at 100l/min (Willeke K, 1992). This statement proves that particles bigger than the virus penetrate through the mask and also causes a public health issue on whether or not wearing a mask protects us from the virus.
