Life Application Essay

Goal:

Topics covered throughout the course provide you with deeper insights into something related to your personal life. The purpose of this writing assignment is for you to find meaningful connection between your personal life and concepts covered throughout our Human Growth & Development course.

Assignment:

Describe an event or aspect of your personal life about which your understanding has been expanded due to learning/studying concepts in this class. Write about how the information you have learned better prepared you for this event or aspect.

Example:

As a middle-aged adult, I am experiencing aspects of the sandwich generation. I could write PAGES of information related to dealing with my elderly father and mother-in-law. I have learned a wealth of information through my reading of course material and further research to help me better cope with the demands of taking care of both of them.

Instructions:

Type a 2 page summary of your findings. Be sure to address all areas outlined in the activity. Summary should be written in complete, grammatically correct sentences addressing the questions listed below. Please refer to the rubric for grading. You will need to upload your document for this assignment.

There are three parts to this assignment:

1. Describe the event, experience, or aspect of your personal life for which you have made this personal connection to the course material. Give enough detail so you can clearly show how it relates to the class content.

2. Describe the concepts, research, and/or theory from the class that provides you with the insight gained. Make specific references to the text, class notes, videos, MVL assignments. Highlight at least 5 vocabulary terms related to the concepts, research, or theory that you discuss. You do not have to cite resources in your paper unless you use a direct quote.

3. Discuss the insights and understandings you gained through writing this assignment by connecting the class with the life experiences you have described.
