For your writing assignment, write up a proposal for your final research paper using the following format.

I’m reluctant to set a page goal for your paper because it’s too easy to focus on that page count as a goal and forget the goal of your argument. I’m more concerned with you writing a solid, research-supported argument than aiming for a page count. As a frame of reference, I will expect your finished essay to be somewhere between 4page in MLA format (that means double-spaced). That will give you enough length to make a relatively complex argument that is focused and to the point. No rambling to fill pages just to get to a page count and a requirement to remain focused.

In your proposal, write out the following:

4. (4 pts) The argument will make—start this paragraph with: I will argue _____[state what you will try to accomplish with your research]____. (Granted, this argument might change as you do your research, but start out with an argument in mind.)
5. (4 pts) The types of research you will need to do to do this project well—start this paragraph with: As I do my research, I will search for sources that help me _____[provide some criteria you will use to evaluate whether a source fits your topic, issue, and argument]___.

Notice that all parts of this assignment earn you the same number of points. They are all equally important.
