Wilmington University Domestic Violence in Vulnerable Groups Essay

Question Description

In the Helping Profession Field, you will inevitably come across people whose situations will challenge you and tap into your biases (we all have them). An important part of being able to successfully work with people from different types of backgrounds and situations who access your services will be your ability to process these feelings and biases and reflect on them. This Self Reflection Journal serves as a way to start practicing this skill now.

Each week as you read about different vulnerable groups of people (etc. victims of domestic violence, women in different cultures, people on welfare or suffering from poverty, etc.), reflect on some initial feelings and reactions you have as you read about them for various assignments. In your journal, write about your initial reactions (either positive or negative), and then discuss why you think that these feelings came up and how you think that this can impact your work with people who are clients from these vulnerable groups.
