West Virginia University Pelican Stores Statistic Based Analysis

• Background:
  Pelican Stores, a division of National Clothing, is a chain of women’s apparel stores operating throughout the USA. The chain recently ran a promotion which discount coupons were sent to customers of other National Clothing stores. Data collected for a sample of 100 in-store credit card transactions at Pelican Stores during one day while the promotion was running were collected in the file named PelicanStoresdata.xls found in this week’s Module. The proprietary card method of payment refer to charges made using a National Clothing charge card. Customers who made a purchase using a discount coupon are referred to as promotional customers and customers who made a purchase but did not use a discount coupon are referred to as regular customers. (Note: management considers the sales made to people presenting the promotional coupons as sales it would not otherwise make and would hopefully encourage those customers to return). • Analyze the Net sales variable (only using that variable). Include all your descriptive statistics calculated/created. Describe in a few sentences your conclusions based your choices of descriptive statistics.
• Analyze Net sales versus the Payment method. Along with your results, describe in a few sentences your conclusions based your choice of descriptive statistic.
• Analyze the success of Promotion using just the variable: Type of Customer . Along with your results, describe in a few sentences your conclusions based off the results/choice of analysis. Was the promotion successful? Why or Why not?
• Analyze the relationship between age and net sales. Use the appropriate method to determine whether there is a linear association/correlation between age variable and net sales variable. Use a couple sentences to answer: Would you say age and net sales have a linear correlation? Why or Why not?
