In the first Discussion this week, you examinedconsiderations for identifying and conceptualizing a construct andwriting items for a new measure. Now, for the second Discussion, youwill apply what you learned to the measure you selected in Week 1(psychological empowerment, positive and negative affect, ororganizational commitment). In particular, you will evaluate the qualityof the conceptualization of the construct. For instance, does it haveadequate depth and breadth? Is it clear how it relates to otherconstructs? You will also evaluate the quality of test items thatcomprise the measure. For instance, are there items that may be unclear,use colloquialisms, or examine more than one concept? Are there itemswith potentially biased language or terms? Are there items that usenegatives? And so on.
To prepare:
- Review this weeks Learning Resources and reflect on what youlearned in the first Discussion this week about identifying andconceptualizing a construct and writing new items for a measure.
- Revisit the article for the measure you selected in Week 1(psychological empowerment, positive and negative affect, andorganizational commitment).
- Evaluate the construct definition for the measure and the quality ofitems that comprise the measure. Identify items that may be problematicand consider why.
By Day 4
Evaluate the construct definition for themeasure you selected in Week 1 (psychological empowerment, positive andnegative affect, and organizational commitment). Then evaluate thequality of the items that comprise the measure you selected. Identifyany items that may be problematic and explain why they may beproblematic based on the information in the Learning Resources and whatyou learned from the first Discussion this week.
