Virginia Polytechnic A Diary of Female Munitions Factory Worker Historical Fiction
Question Description
You will use your knowledge from assigned reading and lectures to create your own plausible primary source that illuminates a specific aspect, event, or process of World War 1 that we have studied, from the specific perspective of a single person. For instance, you could write letters home from a soldier to his parents, who is trying to write between the lines to avoid government censorship. You might write diary entries by a woman who has started work in a munitions factory. You could write a dialogue between a colonial soldier and his host family in Europe. (Note: if you are writing a dialogue between multiple characters, and double space between speakers, your essay must be 8-10 pages).
Your introduction (no longer than 1 page) should frame the topic and introduce the author(s) of the primary source. The introduction should also briefly explain what the historical significance is of the primary source (in other words, how it helps us learn more about the subject beyond what we might learn from a textbook).
Although this is creative historical fiction, you are still required to cite your sources (including lectures, chicgo style ). This exercise is about imagining how history felt at the time to a specific person, rather than how it looks from our current perspective.
