UTD The Statue of Zeus vs The Transfiguration Raphael & Phidias Discussion
Question Description
I’m working on a Art & Design question and need guidance to help me understand better.
In your essay, introduce your topics just like you would in any other essay. You should give a little basic information about each artwork, like who made it and when. Your essay should make a point (have a thesis) about these artworks. Make sure to use any relevant terms in a way that demonstrates your understanding of their meaning. Describe specific examples from each of the artworks you choose as evidence to back up your points. Try to give approximately equal attention to each culture that you discuss. Make sure to answer all of the questions in the prompt!
Please keep the prompt above your essay. Make sure your responses are double-spaced in order to preserve legibility
Prompt: Choose two artworks related to religion or spirituality from either the Deities and Places of Worship or the Mortality and Immortality lesson. The artworks should be created for different belief systems, but they should share something in common (type of subject, purpose, etc.). The artworks should be similar in scale, so its ok to compare a painting to a sculpture, but compare buildings to other buildings.
Write a short essay comparing and contrasting them. Consider their formal qualities, subject matter/iconography (symbols), themes/messages, and materials. What ideas about spirituality are similar between the two cultures who made these works? What ideas are different? How can we understand the people who made these objects based on their creations?
Paste the images below your text, and include image captions below each of them with the artists name or name of the culture that made it, the title (capitalized and italicized), the date, and the medium (material).
