Identify different types of variables that quantitatively assess a globally-relevant social issue. Describe and analyze these variables in a brief written summary.

2-3 pages, does not have to be in essay form. You are reporting data to me. Tell me what data are available, what they measure, and how they were measured. At what level are they? What’s the sample size? Is there any way to improve the data?

Possible data sources: World Bank, United Nations, Food and Agricultural Organization, PEW research center, Varieties of Democracy, World Values Survey

Rubric:

2 points: find at least 5 variables that are relevant to the Sustainable Development Goal you chose in component 1

3 points: describe each variable

What does the variable measure?

How is the variable measured?

At what level of measurement is the variable measured (nominal, ordinal, interval-ratio)?

What is the variables unit of analysis (is it measured at the national level? Individual level? Etc)

What is the sample size?

Is there any way to improve the data?

Give one type of summary statistic for each variable (mean, median, mode, std. dev., etc.)
