University of Southern California Enforcing the Youth Curfew in Philadelphia Ques

Police commissioner Charles H. Ramsey has implemented an extended curfew in an effort to keep Philadelphia streets safe and youth out of trouble. The youth curfew was introduced in Philadelphia in response to several incidents in which groups of juveniles were assaulting random strangers in Center City, and requires unaccompanied children age 13 and younger to be off the streets by 8:00 p.m.; 14-15 year olds by 9:00 p.m.; and 16-17 year olds by 10:00 p.m. Juveniles who violate the curfew are taken into custody until their parents can come and get them.

The police often turn to the public for their support and participation in programs that address crime and social disorder.
