University of Nairobi Public Speaking Speech Discussion

Description: In this speech, you are persuading your classmates to perform a task/action or shifting their thoughts and feelings about a certain topic. The purpose of this speech is to enhance your ability to craft effective arguments and refute counterarguments. Persuasive speeches include: speech of action, speech to inspire, or speech to convince. Along with your presentation, you are required to turn in your speech outline and at least three credible references.

Attire: Treat this class as if it is a traditional/in-person course. With that being said, dress appropriately such as business attire during your speeches. Failure to wear proper attire will result in a 10 points deducted off your speech grade automatically. Do not stand or sit behind a podium, table, or any other barrier to deliver your speech.

Note cards: You are allowed to use up to three 4×6 note cards for each speaking assignment. Do not use a regular sheet of paper or laptops for notes.

Submitting your assignment: You will upload your speech under the appropriate assignment title in Blackboard. Upload your video to a website that is publicly viewable, such as YouTube. Then click on the icon “Insert/Edit Embedded Media” and paste the link in Image URL and post in under the assignment.
