Strayer University Week 2 Job Application Game Plan

Last week we focused on the teaching philosophy and transcripts. Next week we will explore and understand the CV and the cover letter. But this week we learned about all the other “stuff” of an application. Let’s continue to add to your computer’s online teaching job application file by doing the following.

Create a Word document with the following. (For the sake of this assignment, you can put all of this in one Word document. But for the sake of your job application file on your computer, you may have these separated as not all schools will ask for all documents and it will give you a better ‘at a glance’ perspective when you are hunting for materials to include in a particular application – this is up to you).

1) List the schools you have attended, the years you attended them, their street addresses and their general phone numbers.

2) List the workplaces (not including schools you’ve taught for – that comes next) at which you have been employed (the past 15 or so years should be sufficient), the years you worked there, their street addresses, and their general phone numbers.

3) List the schools you have taught for, the years you taught there, the classes you taught while there, whether they were online or on ground, what LMS you used, and the street addresses and a contact phone number at each school.

4) Three (or more) references – their names, positions, workplaces, the nature of your relationship (professional vs. personal or whether they are a previous supervisor, department chair, professor, or colleague, etc. of yours), their phone numbers and email addresses. For the purposes of this assignment, you do not have to contact them to make sure they are willing to serve in this role, but I strongly recommend that you do at some point. Remember, we want to make sure they will make themselves available for a contact, will write a letter in a timely manner, or will otherwise be a support for your application.

5) Just note in this document that you have also saved the following documents to your computer file (as they are appropriate to you, they may not all be, and that is okay!). You don’t have to upload them here, just indicate what you have saved. If none of these apply, just write “None apply.”

• Positive student evaluations
• Proof of licensure
• Awards/Certifications/Certificates of Completion
• A statement of faith (if you plan to apply to religiously-affiliated schools, you may draft this document and have it ready to go in your file).

FYI I attached my CV here and also I have not done Numbers 3 or 5. This is why I am doing this program to get try to get my foot in the door for a first time teaching job.
