Savannah State University Immigration in European Countries Essay
Question Description
In 2018, more than 150,000 people entered the European Union through irregular crossings. Most of these migrants cross the Mediterranean Sea from Libya, Algeria and Tunisia to enter Europe through Italy. Other migrants enter Europe through Cyprus and Greece. Many of these migrants are refugees fleeing conflicts in Syria, Yemen, Turkey, Libya etc. Given the fact that it is difficult or almost impossible to distinguish between refugees, economic migrants, and even criminals, European countries do not seem to agree on what to do. Should European countries adopt an open-door policy by accepting all immigrants? Should these immigrants be divided equally among European countries so that they can share the burden? Should each individual country be given the prerogative to make a decision with the consequence of being penalized? Should these immigrants be caught and sent back to their countries of origin? What is your take on this immigration issue facing European countries? Please address any of the above questions in few paragraphs .
