Santa Monica College Identifying Social Roles Presentation

Hi! Based on the textbook definition of the many social roles you identify with, create a presentation. Identify multiple social roles you are engaged in / or represent and organize your response (Choose Slides or Document Submission).

For example, brainstorm first (perhaps you’ll identify 15 social roles or more) and then identify the most prominent roles, such as student, romantic partner, daughter/son, roommate, barista, member of (X) club, organization, etc. Base your submission on the identification of these specific roles, not on roles as defined by society.

Provide a brief explanation for each (how, where, how often you participate/represent this role).

Choose method to submit:

• Option 1: Powerpoint Presentation
  • 5 slide minimum + 1 title slide = 6 slides minimum.
    • If you wish to group social roles into a slide where it makes sense by category, you are welcome to do that.
  • Keep your slides simple and to the point.
  • Identify and describe one social role per slide and give an explanation of this role and/or examples of how you engage in this role.
  • Do not use any multi-media or audio files in your presentation. Rather, you may spice up your presentation with images and personal photos of your choice.

• Option 2: Document Submission (Microsoft Word or Google Docs)
  • If you choose to submit a written submission into Canvas, clearly identify your social roles and provide an explanation of each role by naming the role and describing who you relate to in this role.
  • Your submission should identify a minimum of 5 social roles and give examples of how you engage in each role.
  • 1000 word count minimum.
