OUMC Infectious Illness SARS Low Survival Chance Letter to Inform Family

choose one infectious illness; time period and location. See the Timeline spreadsheet attached for examples but feel free to choose your own if you like. You will write a letter to family members from the perspective of a person living in that time, through that particular situation. You may assume your persona is literate OR that your persona dictated the letter. Research the context carefully. You may make up a persona or choose someone who really lived during that time. Your letter must be accompanied by at least 10 references, none of which can be web pages. This does not include journals or books accessed online. You do not need to cite references in your letter but attach a bibliography on a separate paper after your letter. The letter must be at least 10 pages, double spaced, 12 point font.

Inclusion of historical references, description of the disease and the effect it had on the people of the time. Hinting at some of the issues we’ve discussed in class so far is a plus. Writing style, grammar and spelling count! I am not expecting you to write in the language or style of the time you choose. You may include slang of the times if appropriate; you will not be graded down for this. However, you may not use this as an excuse for bad writing overall—I must be able to understand your writing! The more you get into your persona and include historical details, the more the letter will come to life.
