Select the scenario you want to use from the two options provided.
Option #1 (MLS) – Club Internacional de Fútbol Miami (referred to as Inter Miami CF) started playing in the MLS using a small stadium in Ft. Lauderdale Stadium until their Miami Stadium is built (if it ever is). For this project, we will pretend they are starting next season (2021) in their new Miami Stadium (Freedom Park, 25,000 capacity). David Beckham has tasked you with a project to produce a short presentation (with PPT slides) of what their ticketing pricing should be for both individual games as well as season tickets. You need to research what other MLS teams have and are doing in terms of pricing, and also you need to factor in the local economy and fan base in your pricing recommendations. Your presentation should provide the pricing plan as well as the rationale for why you made the decisions you made in determining the pricing.
Suggested Steps
1) Quick research on what Freedom Park Stadium plans to look like in terms of seating (no seating chart exist to the best of my knowledge)
2) Quick research on the three other MLS teams with stadiums in the 25,000 range (use one of these seating charts to help illustrate your pricing strategy. You don’t need to create your own seating chart)
3) Research other MLS teams and their pricing strategies
4) Research other MLS teams that recently started (there are several) and how their first couple of years went in terms of pricing, season tickets, attendance, etc…
5) Quick research on basic Miami Metro stats compared to other metro areas in terms of cost of living and what other sports teams in the area charge.
6)Create a pricing strategy for Inter Miami CF (single game and season ticket prices) (other considerations, will you use PSLs?, Variable pricing?, Dynamic pricing?)
7) Create a presentation that highlights your pricing strategy and your research that led you to your recommendations.
Hint – When I use the term quick, I am expecting you to just spend a few minutes gathering some basic data. For example, for Step 5, I would go to Google, type in “cost of living index by city” and then click on a link like https://www.numbeo.com/cost-of-living/region_rankings.jsp?title=2018®ion=019and find Miami and then see the cities around it on the list and find a couple of cities that have MLS teams and then I would check out their pricing and use the information as references when developing my pricing strategy.
Option #2 – Hypothetical Sport Event or Tournament – Several of you have expressed interest in sports or recreational activities outside of Pro Sports, so you can use this opportunity to explore your interest a little deeper. Assume a hypothetical event or tournament that would sell tickets for spectators to watch (do not use a current tournament or event) and similar to the steps above go through and research similar tournaments and similar locations as your hypothetical event/tournament and then create a tiered pricing plan that you could recommend to the CEO of the Event/Tournament.
