- Begin the essay with two (2) opposing quotes that explain the controversy;
- I want to see a clear position taken with at least four (4) guiding principles that support your thesis;
- You must employ Aristotles 3 appeals logos pathos, and ethos;
- The paper must include both primary and secondary sources;
- There should be a clear claim of fact, claim of value, claim of policy;
- A logical, essay to follow chain of reasoning;
- Clear refutation (points for the other side of the argument) that also uses Aristotles appeals. (It is not enough to say you dont agree. You need support from a reputable primary or secondary source, which means you must provide the ethos);
- Rebuttal (the restoration of your side of the argument) Show how the refutation is flawed by either pointing out the weakness of the counterargument or agreeing with it, then showing how it supports your position;
- Anecdote of accommodation (tell a story that supports your side of the argument);
- Conclusion that ties all the discussed points together in way that results in a definitive position or a call to action.
