New York University Week 5 The Fed Resources and Evidence Based Practice Discussion
Question Description
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING WORD LIMIT REQUIREMENTS:
Please note that each and every assignment has its own word limit.
Federal resources are a vital aspect of public health because it helps to identify evidence-based practice, control, and prevention approaches that will impact public health. There are various evidence-based federal resources, such as centers for disease control and prevention, agency for healthcare research and quality, healthy people 2030, and more. Also, in order for these resources to exist and continue to promote and protect public health, they need to be funded for development and implementation. Federal funding allows for the groundwork behind the development and implementation of evidence-based practice. For example, in order for a vaccine to be developed and distributed, the researcher and program developer would need funding to hire staffs, provide training, they would need funding for materials to do the experiments, and need funding for to make data-driven decisions, and develop strategies for implementation, such as creating policies ( Metz and Albers, 2014).
Some challenges that occur when using the federal resource is that if it was funded and it was given a time frame, the research might have been rushed and the data can be insufficient. Also, sometimes, the data might be too old because no funding was provided to update the information. For example, sometimes when I am researching public health issues or diseases on the center for disease control and prevention webpage, the information would be data from 1998 or 2004 which will make the data insufficient to use in a research paper in 2020. Also, the language of the federal resources can be hard to decipher and understand because of the terminologies that they use.
