Discussion Board 14 – Hypothesis Testing – Proportion

1. In 2018 it was reported that 8.5% of the population in the U.S. did not have health insurance. You would like to test and see if the proportion of people who do not have health insurance has increased. You randomly select 285 people and find that 33 do not have health insurance. Using the level of significance of .05 see if the proportion of people who do not have health insurance has increased.

A. What will be the alternative hypothesis? (just need to state – 1-tail -Lower, 1-tail-Upper or 2-tail – just put one of those 3 answers in the body of the discussion board, but you will have a more detailed solution on your worksheet that you will attach as a PDF)

B. What is the test statistics value (correct number of decimal places depending on which test statistic)?

C. What is the probability of the test statistic for this specific problem? (take into consideration if this is 1-tail or 2-tail test)

D. What conclusion will you come to? (just need to state Accept Ho or Reject Ho and Accept Ha – just put one of those 3 answers in the body of the discussion board, but you will have a more detailed solution (besides writing one of these statements you will write out in words what the conclusion means) on your worksheet that you will attach as a PDF)

E. Using the critical value approach at what critical value or values will you start rejecting the null hypothesis? (make sure you are very careful and detailed with your answer, pay attention to signs and values)

Your worksheet that you will attach as a PDF, should have all the steps of the hypothesis test clearly

written out, even if not asked for directly in the question or answers of the discussion board (use my

videos and practice problems as a guide of how detailed to be).
