Luzerne County Community Compare Story The Geranium and Miss Grief Discussion

I am looking for some help with a literary analysis. The chose stories are Constance Woolsons “Miss Grief” and Flannery O’Connor ” The Geranium”

Consider a common theme, literary device, etc. between two to three stories read (or that you will read) in ENG 224W.

In four to five full pages, consider how your chosen theme functions within the stories. Remember that it is not enough to simply say, “There is death in these two stories.” This sentence would not suffice as a thesis. You must discuss the authors’ purposes in utilizing your chosen theme. And, you must also compare and contrast the use of this theme, literary device, etc. throughout both, or all three, stories.

I have the introduction started

Thetwo stories that I chose to compare are Flannery O’ Connor’s, “The Geranium”and Constance Fenimore Woolson’s, “Miss Grief”. These two different authorstold quite different stories but had similar meaning behind both. In the story “Miss Grief”, it is about a womanwho spends her life trying to get her literary work to be noticed. She finallyfinds an author to look at it for her and get it published. It is not until thevery end of her life when she finally feels satisfaction when she is told thatit is finally going to happen for her. In “The Geranium”, the story is about aman who is happy during the beginning of his life but is then sent to live withhis daughter due to health issues. He struggles trying to find his place in hisnew life and comes to rely on a geranium in a nearby apartment window forhappiness. Through the selection of characters and settings in both stories, “MissGrief” and “The Geranium” examine the struggles and setbacks and the unseenpowers in the main characters and what they have endured throughout thestories.
