Reflection Assignment: Language and Words

Part 1 Prompts– Talk about a time you learned a new word or phrase. How have you seen language – and semantics (meaning of words) change as you have gotten older? Do your parents understand what it means for something to “be lit” or for someone to “throw shade?” What other words/phrases does your generation use that may mean something different to older generations?

Part 2 – I’m always looking to up my street cred with my students, so teach me something new! What’s somephrases or words you think I have no idea what they mean. Walk me through how to “properly” use them.

Reflections should focus on your own experiences, and how the knowledge learned can be applied to better

improve your personal and professional communication skills. Reflections should be a minimum of 1.5 pages –

using Times New Roman, 12-point font, one-inch margins, single-spaced. It should include a heading with your

name, course number, paper title, and professor’s name. You do not need to use MLA or citations. Think of
