Grossmont Mona Lisas Painting by Leonardo Da Vinci Museums Art Discussion

Question Description

Hello, I have this discussion for my Art class. Please make sure to follow ALL the steps required. Thank you!

Complete this Research Preparation:

  1. Visit THREE museum websites from the list below.
  2. Allow yourself 45 minutes for each virtual museum visit.
  3. At each museum,
    • Locate the “special exhibition” link and set your timer for 15 minutes. Click the link and spend 15 minutes reading about and looking at art. If there isn’t a “special exhibition” link, there may be a link to a museum tour, recent acquisitions, or featured artwork — explore that instead.
    • Locate the “explore collection” link and set your timer for 15 minutes. Type in artists, artworks, or key words to search. Spend 15 minutes reading about and looking at art. If there isn’t an “explore collection” link, look for one that says, “collection,” or “permanent collection,” or, “museum artworks”—you get the picture (ha ha)—and explore that instead.
    • Locate one masterpiece or world-famous artwork at the museum and spend 15 minutes reading about it and looking at it. You can choose from the list below (from module 5) or, you can choose something else from the museum that you like. Many museums will have a “greatest hits” link or provide visitors links to their most popular artworks. The museum might have a zoom feature, additional suggestions of artworks to look at, short videos, and additional essays you can read.

Respond to this Prompt:

  • What three museum websites did you visit? [Yes, the three museums must be on the list below.]
  • What three masterpieces did you research? [Yes, one artwork from each museum. The artwork may be from the list below or it can be student’s choice.]
  • How has this class enhanced your capacity to appreciate (i.e. understand, explore, notice, forms opinions, or like) works of art? This questions asks you to reflect on your own experience and ability to independently engage with art.
  • Embed an image of your favorite masterpiece (your #1 artwork from the three you researched above). [Yes, this means that is from one of the museums below. And, it may or may not be on the list below. It’s your choice].
    • Provide the title, artist (if known), and date (if listed).
    • Write at least five sentences about it explaining why you have selected it as a “show and tell” and what from your point of view is noteworthy.
      • Do not copy text from the label. We are interested in YOUR thoughts, observations, musings, and so forth.
      • If you get stuck, imagine yourself in the museum gallery, standing in front of the artwork, talking about the artwork to a friend.

Respond to two classmates:

  • As you did in the first discussion, address your classmates by name and reference their post in a reply that is at least 3-5 sentences in length.

A Note about the Writing Style:

It’s okay to be casual, this is not an academic paper. But we are in a college course, so please follow these conventions for college-level writing:

  • Punctuate sentences with periods or other final terminations.
  • Spell out all words (texting abbreviations…r u kidding me? no!)
  • When referring to yourself in the first person, use capital letter “I” and not the lower case “i’. (This is a biggie. “I” is a proper pronoun. Look smart. Be smart. You are smart.)
