Examples:
1. Veronica is a 25 year old, straight (heterosexual) cisgender Latina woman. She has made it clear to all her friends that she is only interested in dating White men. She claims that that is all she is attracted to. She states that she dated a Latino man in the past but he cheated on her. She indicated that she prefers to date White men from here on out.
2. Rob is a 50 year old, gay (homosexual) cisgender White man. He has made it clear to all of his friends that he is only interested in dating younger Black men. He states that it is simply his preference for dating younger Black guys. He states that he has always been attracted to younger Black guys because the loves the stark contrast in their skin tones and the feel of being with younger men sexually.
3. Aparna is a 34 year old, straight (heterosexual) cisgender Indian (Telugu) American woman. She states that she is only willing to date Indian men as it is important to both her and her family that she marry a man from her own culture.
For this discussion post, I want you to think critically about Veronica, Rob, and Aparna. Are these three people simply examples of different sexual/dating preferences or is something else going on here? Are all three examples the same or are they fundamentally different in some ways? Are Veronica, Rob, and Aparna simply stating their sexual/dating preferences or could some or all of these also be examples of possible: ethnocentrism, biases, racism, fetishism, discrimination, or objectification going on here? Are Veronica, Rob, and Aparna all the same in their sexual/dating preferences or are there fundamental differences between their examples?
