Question Description
Description of Short ReportYou goal in this assignment is to identify and explain a theme or issue that connects all three ofyour research sources. You must have a clear argument/thesis, and you must support thatargument with evidence from your research sources. You will present that evidence by engagingin a critical/analytical dialogue with the three sources you choose. Keep in mind, however, thatyou are limited to approximately 750 words, so your thesis must be very clear and narrow. Youwill also be expected to use APA style correctly and to present your theme/issue in a formal andprofessional manner. The claim you make in this report may do one of the following:Option 1: Assert that one source more effectively makes its case/supports its position withrespect to the topic than do the other sources youve found. In this case you will analyze the claims made and persuasive strategies employedin each source and critique them. Note that this will be an analysis of the writers approach and skill how well theypresented and argued their points and not necessarily an analysis of their topic.Option 2: Explore the nuances of the topic/issue as presented by the sources and makerecommendations for future research. In this case you will choose one specific point with regards to the topic/issue thatthe source material either:o touches on but doesnt elaborate fully, oro raises more questions than it answers. Then you will explain the gaps that you see as problematic (and why), and makerecommendations for what kind of research might fill in these gaps.Note: Choosing Option 2 could save you some time once you get to Assignment 4 FormalReport, as you could use that assignment as a chance to do the research you recommend in theconclusion of the Short Report.Content requiredThe Short Report must include the following elements: Cover pageo report title, your name, and submission dateo please no complicated (slow-loading) graphics Introductiono source material introduced by author name and titleo and contents of the report forecastedo thesis / argument clearly stated Backgroundo Each source formally summarized in a manner that covers key points of theauthors argument as it pertains to your thesis Analysiso sub-section headings (if appropriate); bulleted or numbered lists, and graphs, charts, and tables are also suitable if they convey information more effectivelythan would texto based on the criteria of either option 1 or option 2 as described above Conclusion References APA style (see note below regarding automatic citation builders)EvaluationWhen grading, I will be looking for evidence that your report: Fulfills the assignment requirements as described above and in the grading rubric Has a clear thesis statement at the end of the introduction Conforms to the design specifications of APA style, including in-text citations and fullreferences at the end of the document Follows a logical structure for a short report document Effectively synthesizes source material Is the appropriate length Is balanced and unbiased in tone Contains sentences that are clear and concise, show variety, and use good vocabulary Exhibits grammatically, mechanically, and syntactically correct written EnglishNOTE1 – required: do not use an automatic citation builder (including the tool in Word) for anyassignments in this class. No points are awarded for any citation element if an automatic citationbuilder is used. Please just learn to write the citations yourself.NOTE2 – required: These are sources that, while entertaining and useful in some situations andin some ways, should not be used as research sources for this or any other assignment:Huffington Post, Wikipedia, IFLS, Cracked, etc.NOTE3 – optional: while APA Style requires double-spacing for reports, I do prefer 1.15 spacing. If you remember to change it to 1.15 for the assignment for this class, Id really appreciate it.
