ENG 120 Cuyumaca College The Book Monster Culture Discussion
Question Description
Now that we’ve had a chance to look at some materials for Project 3, I’d like us to share with each other what monsters you have chosen to focus on for this project. If you are having trouble narrowing or coming up with your three, feel free to reach out to me, and I can help brainstorm. Remember your “monsters” can be real monsters, ie. serial killers and murders, imaginary monsters, ie. monsters from movies, tv, books, video games, folklore, characters depicted as monstrous, ie. Lady Macbeth or Killmonger, or monstrous ideals, ie. fascism, white nationalist, racism, islamophobia, homophobia, toxic masculinity, Mexicans as murders and rapists, transphobia, etc. Remember, that the goal of this project is to analyze monsters and the society they come from through race and culture.
You can use monsters or monstrous characters from the book you are reading for this class or something else you are interested in. Remember, your three monsters can be three interations of the same monster or three different ones (you can do similar monsters or have completely different ones). Your monsters don’t have to match each other.
Heads up, your research is going to be due next week, so my suggestion is to start researching your monsters and looking for scholarly, peer reviewed sources now. My two suggestions on places to find scholarly sources are Google Scholar and the library. If you need help with researching, both the Writing Center and my office hours can be a great resource.
Once you have decided on your monsters, in this discussion board, please answer the following:
- What three monsters are you choosing for your Project 3?
- Why did you choose them?
- Do you agree with Cohen, disagree with Cohen or agree with a difference?
