My fear/phobia is: bathophobia: fear of depth (caves, stairways, deep pools, etc.)

Performance Task–Informative Speech on Fear/PhobiaIn real life, fear is useful because it can keep us from doing dangerous things. However, there areother dimensions to fear that seem less logical. For example, what draws us to go on scary rollercoasters, or go skydiving? Why do we enjoy literature, movies, and art that let us dabble in our fears?These are some questions we’ve considered in this unit thus far.

Assignment: In a logical, well-organized speech, you must explain (presentinformation with details) a fear or phobia of your choice. A phobia is anextreme or irrational fear of something. You must focus on ONE fear/phobia.

In an effective explanatory speech, the speaker must do the following:? Focus on a central point that will increase the readers’ knowledge of the subject or helpreaders understand the subject better? Have a clear, engaging introduction and conclusion? Use varied evidence and details that engages readers and clarifies ideas–anecdote or briefnarrative, facts, examples, reasons, incidents, etc.?
