Objective: Explain the application of Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA).
Instructions
The following patients arrive at the hospital ER:
- Helena is complaining of labor pains, but her husband states they do not have health insurance.
- Bryan fell 30 feet from a ladder at work. He has insurance, but he thinks he may have missed a few payments. He seems groggy.
- Four-year-old Isabelle is brought in by her day care provider. Isabelle has a graze on her knee. Her caregiver reports that she has no idea about the familys medical insurance.
- Seventy-year-old Muhammad walks in; he is dazed and confused, but otherwise seems unhurt. He is too groggy to indicate whether or not he has insurance.
Choose two of the patients above and write a paragraph explaining the procedures for each of these patients. You are not providing any medical advice; you are only determining the actions from the following:
