Medical Ethics Reply 1 Georgina:
The basic principle of medical ethics I have chosen is beneficence.Beneficence is aligned with the Hippocratic Oath principle of do no harm, protecting individuals from harm by maximizing possible benefits and minimizing possible risks, (Perrin, 2015). Beneficence takes a part in the everyday life of medical workers. In order to be medical staff, one has to have a heart and compassion for others including good behavior. It helps clients to trust the physician and nurses who are taking care of them.
Beneficence is very important by providing good care that makes a patient safe and feel safe. They are able to trust the medical staff with confidence. Health care professionals have the responsibility to provide the duties of care that benefit the patients. One of my clients was very sick he had a stomach problem. He went to ER complaining about how other nurses were mean to him and he even asked her why did she become a nurse? With this beneficence in place, all medical staff has a knowledge of what is good for the patient and how to behave around patients.

Hello Class & Professor Dashevsky,
For this week’s discussion post, we were asked to elaborate on a key principle of medical ethics and why we believe it is more important than others. Perrin (2014) defines medical ethics in a very simple manner, medical ethics are a system of moral principles and values applied to medical, health, and biological science judgments and decision making. The sole purpose of medical ethics is to defend and protect human dignity, and patient rights. Abiding by the basic principles of medical ethics can strengthen doctor-patient relations which allows for better communication and healthcare decisions.
The basic principles of medical ethics include respect for persons autonomy, beneficence, and justice (Perrin, 2014). I believe that all principles should be help up with the highest importance regardless of the line of work, however, medical ethics weighs heavy because of the responsibility of another’s life. Personally, I feel that respect for persons autonomy is extremely important and is a blanket principlefor numerous amounts of other principles. Autonomy is not the only value that matters, but I do believe it is the value that matters most. Perrin (2014) does a great job in explaining the two avenues of respect for person autonomy, First, each individual is treated with respect and is given adequate information to make an informed decision, including having no treatment or alternative treatments. Informed decisions should be made without excessive influence of others. Second, individuals with diminished decision-making capacity require extra protection, depending on the risk of harm and the likelihood of benefit.
Patients should never be deprived of authority over making informed decisions about their health, unless they were mentally incapable due to a mental illness or disease. Patients should be offered options and allowed to make voluntary choices about potential life-changing healthcare interventions. The idea that patients should be enabled to make informed decisions also helpfully encourages attention to individuals’ understandings of the presented interventions (Entwistle et al., 2010).
