Ashford University Mandatory Security Baselines Discussion

The security check provides a baseline (https://security.web.cern.ch/security/rules/en/baselines.shtml) of your current security practices. A personal security baseline will provide an idea of “where you are now” which will provide both you and me an idea of your current cyber mindset (“attitudes, beliefs, and values that motivate individuals to continually act in ways to secure themselves…” – Source: https://policyreview.info/articles/analysis/fostering-cyber-security-mindset)

In summary, a security baseline is your security/privacy level today.

You will evaluate (on a 1 to 5 scale – 1 being very low and 5 being very high) your personal, computer, internet, and mobile security as well as your privacy practices. For each area, you will provide a supporting explanation for your evaluation (ie What did you give a # for the area?)

1. Personal Security – 1 to 5 – Why? What are you doing / using for your personal security? (2 pts)
   1. Example Response – Personal Security – 2 – I work in a public location that is publicly accessible. I try to modify my schedule/patterns to the best of my abilities and avoid taking the same mode of transportation. I am always looking for a safe exit and potential vulnerabilities. I rely heavily on civility and public service. I live in a quiet neighborhood, lock my doors, lock my cars, and practice emergency preparedness with my family. Additionally, I live modestly and do not show any displays of wealth. I carry minimal cash/valuables.
2. Computer Security – 1 to 5 – Why? What are you doing/using for your computer security? (2 pts)
3. Internet Security – 1 to 5 – Why? What are you doing/using for your Internet security? (2 pts)
4. Mobile Security – 1 to 5 – Why? What are you doing/using for your mobile security? (2 pts)
5. Privacy – 1 to 5 – Why? What are you doing/using for your privacy? (2 pts)
