Question Description

respond to the question based off of the essay

“People should take pride in their differences because that is what defines one person from the other.”In history, various events have created a pathway for evaluating gender differences amongst women and men, particularly at home and in public, in terms of their expectations, relational systems, and communication styles. Regardless of whether such differences exist, women have habitually been seen as unique and different sets of individuals. This is why many scholars have pointed out the causes of conflicts and relationship issues between men and women because of these gender differences. Nonetheless, with gender equity, such differences have been reduced, and in some instances, men and women are equal. Nevertheless, some societies have held on to these differences in various occasions and contexts. Generally, this work discusses the different behavior patterns amongst women and men at home and in public, especially their expectations, relations styles, and communication styles.

To start with, men and women are different at home and in public in their communication styles. Notably, at home, women talk much compared to men. This reality has been proven by various scholars such as Tannen. For instance, Tannen stated that it is common to find women at home are the initiators of most conversations. Men sit and watch either news or read in newspapers as their partners sit lonely, staring at the newspapers (Tannen 12). Remarkably, this is a common scenario in most homes, which results in relationship issues since women wish to be talked to or wish their men to initiate a conversation that does not happen. Besides, in boys and girls, it is similar, especially in colleges where boys talk less while girls talk more. On the contrary, in public, men talk more than women. This is an expectation from our societies that have made men more vocal than women in public, which is an issue that has been trending for decades. Markedly, most topics that are discussed in public need men to state their varying opinions mainly for comparisons and conclusions; consequently, men are more vocal in public. Importantly, generally, at home women have a lot of issues to take care of, while in public men should show their authority and knowledge. This means that since women are the home keepers, they talk much trying to address the various issues related to the feminine gender. Regardless of the differences in women and men at home and in public in terms of their communication styles, what matters is that their relationships should be kept.

Similarly, women and men are different in public and at home based on their relational style. Notably, the differences in relational styles are brought by cognitive structures. Remarkably, the cognitive structure reveals the various dramatic structure differences between women’s and men’s relational thinking processes. This brings the difference in the social life of men and women primarily on their thoughts. Worthy mentioning, women first naturally internalize and experience other people’s feelings and thoughts for them to react (Linzer and Eileen 963). This is what is termed as consciousness in women as it is filled and attuned with these processes. Noteworthy, women’s cognitive style relational nature is shown in the manner they share their stories and in their responses. According to research, men only focus on the issues they are currently facing. This is a natural inclination of men whereby men care and think about other people’s feelings as a big deal, although they do it out of their reference frame. For example, suppose a man judge’s other people’s actions or feelings as illegitimate, dramatic, or annoying. In that case, he does his best to work around such people but fails to engage with such people mentally and think or talk about him or such things as the very last things. Overall, there is a significant difference between men and women in their relational styles, which makes women’s relationships more prolonged than men. The differences between men and women in public and at home do not end here; their expectations are different.

Equally, the expectations of men and women are different in public and at home. Remarkably, honesty is associated with men, while physical attractiveness is associated with women. According to a survey carried out on open-ended questions, the characteristics or traits highly valued in men by society are morality and honesty, where 33 percent population supported that (Place and Jennifer 165). Additionally, the public puts more pressure on men based on career front and jobs. This follows research where researchers reported that approximately 23 percent of the society values financial and professional success, mostly in men, which puts them under pressure (Place and Jennifer 166). Remarkably, most people mentioned that being rich or money was highly valued in men with a 6 percent value; in comparison, careers or jobs were 6 percent valued on men since they were referred to as the breadwinners. Moreover, assertiveness, toughness, strength, good work, ambition, or leadership were associated with men with a popularity percentage of nineteen (Place and Jennifer 170). However, although there is gender equality in the modern world, women still are pressured with home chores. In most societies, men are titled to all the authorities to find them being associated with chores. Again, with society’s pressures and men being the breadwinners, you find them so busy to be involved in home chores since they are away in jobs or looking for money. Generally, this is why home chore is termed as ladies’ duties because, in most cases, they are at home.

Succinctly, different occasions have created a pathway for the evaluation of gender differences amongst women and men, particularly at home and in public, in terms of their expectations, relational systems, and communication styles. Regardless of whether such differences exist, women have habitually been seen as unique and different sets of individuals. This is why many scholars have pointed out the causes of conflicts and relationship issues between men and women because of these gender differences. Generally, society’s expectations have pressure on men and women since the expectations are different, although gender equality has been in place.

What I learned from the compare and contrast essay was how to explain better. I have always struggled to support my points well in my essays and with each type of essay I’ve learned to better strengthen my point. These essay specifically has made me a more well rounded writer because I have the least experience in compare and contrast essays.

For the compare and contrast essay, I learned a lot about structuring a paragraph and how to have both contrasting and comparing points made throughout sentences. I looked at a lot of studies done on men and women for the essay and its really interesting how men and women think differently in almost every situation at hand and learning that blew me away. Some recommendations while writing this essay is to re-read every paragraph after you finish it, to make sure it makes sense with whatever point you’re trying to make. I made a brainstorm paper to help get my ideas out which also may be effective.
