Arizona State University ?Distributed Model of Leadership Discussion

There are many case studies of organizations that have adopted a distributed model of leadership. To help you do a deeper dive into a specific case example of how an organization has innovatively worked to cultivate leaders from everywhere, you will select one of the HBR/McKinsey M-Prize “Leaders Everywhere Challenge” Winners as an example to explore further.

1. First, to orient yourself to these cases, read the “Challenge Brief (Links to an external site.)” which posed the following question to organizations: “What does it take to dramatically enlarge the leadership capacity of an organization?” (Brief is found under the “Challenge Brief” tab in the middle of the page.)
2. Second, select one of the “Challenge Winners (Links to an external site.)” as your case illustration to explore further (Note: Each mini-case is structured with the following information: Summary; Context; Triggers; Key Innovations & Timeline; Challenges & Solutions; Benefits & Metrics; Lessons, Credits, and Materials). (To find the winners, click on the “Results” tab in the middle the page.)
3. Third, reflect and analyze the case using the following guiding questions:
   • How do you see the innovation(s) detailed in the case helping to give the organization a leadership advantage in our VUCA world?
   • Specifically, how does the case illustrate the 4-C’s of Leaderful Practice as outlined in our reading this week by Raelin: 1) Concurrent; 2) Collective; 3) Collaborative; and 4) Compassionate?
   • What new insights did you get for your own organization and/or future organizations you might work for from this case illustration?
   • What new insights did you get for your personal work as a leader from this case illustration?

Please submit:

• A 6-page, double-spaced, Times, 12-point font Word document that provides your analysis and reflections to the above prompts with a minimum of 3 references.
• You are welcome to write your paper in a narrative, 1st person voice.
