Research in the past has shown that African-Americans are more likely to spend time in jail than whites. And they serve longer prison sentences. Racial background is a driving factor in the prison experience. African Americans tend to see prison as a less severe experience than whites, but this may be a socioeconomic rather than racial issue. Do you agree or disagree that their incarceration is due to socioeconomic reasons rather than race? Support your argument.
