American College of California Module 5 Aquatic Ecosystems Lab Report
Question Description
The purpose of the Module 5 Lab is to conduct an assessment of water quality.
You will have the opportunity to develop skills/knowledge in:
- identifying the diversity, ecological and economic services of aquatic ecosystems
- identifying common water pollutants, their source, health impacts and how they can be prevented or mitigated
- explaining the physical processes of how water pollutants impair ecologic and economic services of aquatic ecosystems
- observing and evaluating physical, chemical and biological indicators of water quality
In order to complete this module, you will complete the following tasks:
- Visit an urban creek or other local water body and complete this water quality assessmentActionsreferencing the following presentation and and using data from King County’s Major Lakes water quality monitoring or other relevant data source if you are outside of Seattle.
Use the following criteria/tips for success:
- Reference the grading rubric for this assignment
- Don’t forget that you have a lab group discussion page! You need to check that discussion page to help the other students in your group as well as ask them for help.
- If you would like a more detailed introduction to the lab, watch the following tutorial

This criterion is linked to a Learning OutcomeWhat information does your research provide about benthic index of biotic integrity (B-IBI)? Be as specific as possible. What does this value mean? Recall, even if you cannot find your specific water body, research the kinds of benthic indices you find in your area. |
